Salvage operation to refloat the reefer ship Bereg Nadezhdy thrown ashore in the Barents Sea by the storm is scheduled for November 16, 2011, the Transport Ministry said citing the Russian salvage center. The cargo ship is owned by CJSC RIMSCO, home port – Vladivostok.
According to the State Marine Rescue Coordination Center, the salvage team includes a rescue and oil boom-laying boat Markab (of Murmansk BASU), a rescue towboat of MurmanRyba (RosRybolovstvo), the Iskatel tug owned by Maritime Expertise Ltd. (home port Murmansk) and a Navy helicopter.
The stricken vessel sandwiched between two rocks, has currently a heavy list to port. The vessel’s rudder propeller is damaged, there is a slight flow of water into the engine room. The crew members are safe and well. The sea was not polluted.
The reefer ship Bereg Nadezhdy was thrown ashore by the storm near the east coast of the island of Kildin Tuesday morning.
