China ports’ ten-month traffic rises 13.6 percent to 7.54 billion tons

Total cargo throughput of the ports of China in January-October 2011 grew by 13.6% compared with the same period last year, to nearly 7.54 billion tons, the Ministry of Transport of China said.

In the reporting period seaports of the country handled 5.12 bn tons of goods, up 13.6% from a year earlier, river port lifted 2.41 bn tons, a 13.7% gain on last year’s figure.

China's container trade for the period increased by 12.6% to 134.9 million TEUs. Container volume handled at seaports rose 11.9% to 120.8 million TEUs.
