Gibbs & Cox ink agreement with BAE Systems Ship Repair

Independent naval architectural and marine engineering firm Gibbs & Cox, Inc. has signed a Professional Services Agreement (PSA) with BAE Systems Ship Repair, MarineLog reports.

Gibbs & Cox also announced Thursday it had joined the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA), a regional trade association representing companies engaged in, or supporting, the ship repair industry in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region.

The agreement will allow any of the BAE Systems shipyards to contract directly with Gibbs & Cox for engineering services in support of their repair, fabrication and new construction work.

BAE Systems Ship Repair is a leading provider of non-nuclear ship repair, modernization, conversion, overhaul, fabrication and new construction for commercial and government customers. It currently operates six shipyards:

  • Norfolk Ship Repair, Norfolk, Va.
  • Southeast Shipyards Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Southeast Shipyards Alabama, Mobile, Ala.
  • San Diego Ship Repair in San Diego, Calif.
  • San Francisco Ship Repair, San Francisco, Calif.
  • Hawaii Shipyards, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Under the PSA, Gibbs & Cox will provide engineering and design services spanning the full range of technical support. This includes general engineering support to supplement BAE Systems’ staff engineers, deck plate field service engineers and proposal inputs.

“This partnership agreement is an exciting step forward in our expanding relationship with BAE Systems Ship Repair. This synergistic effort allows Gibbs & Cox to support the engineering of any of the shipyards within BAE Systems. In turn, BAE Systems benefits by maintaining a lean infrastructure to provide competitive repair services,” said Rick Biben, Chief Executive of Gibbs & Cox. “This award continues our strategy to reach out directly to the shipyards to provide maritime engineering and design solutions for commercial and government end-customers.”
