The order is STX's first achievement since STX chairman Kang Duk-soo said that his company would focus on the shipbuilding and shipping business.
STX managed to maintain its competitiveness in the global market by winning the order of the second biggest container ship in the world.
STX Offshore & Shipbuilding revealed that it has inked a deal with a European shipping company to build six container ships (including four options) of 16,000 TEUs.
In addition, STX had a modification in its previous contract with the shipping company to build 10 units of 13,000-TEU container ships. Under the modified contract, STX will build four 16,000-TEU container ships out of the 10.
The container ships will be built in the Jinhae shipyard and will be delivered starting from the third quarter of 2014.
