Maersk sets peak season surcharges from Asia to Mexico, Latin America

Maersk Line is implementing a series of general rate increases and peak-season surcharges that will take effect on its Far East Asia services in December, the Journal of Commerce reported.

The Danish carrier said rates from Far East Asia to Mexico, Central America and the west coast of South America will increase by $600 per 20-foot unit and $1,200 per 40-foot/45-foot high cube dry container, starting Dec. 15.

From Far East Asia to the Caribbean, rates will rise on Dec. 15 by $560 per 20-foot unit and $800 per 40-foot/45-foot high cube dry container.

The proposed GRI on dry cargo from Far East Asia to South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands will be $150 per 20-foot and $300 per 40-foot/45-foot container, also effective Dec. 15.

Maersk will levy a peak-season surcharge on shipments moving from Far East Asia to ports in North Europe and the Mediterranean. Starting Dec. 26, the surcharge on both dry and refrigerated cargo will be $200 per 20-foot and $400 per 40-foot container.
