Ukraine ports transit traffic rises 27.5 percent in Jan-Oct

The total volume of transit cargoes handled in 18 sea ports of Ukraine in January-October, 2011 rose by 27.5 percent from a year earlier, to 33,287,700 tons, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.


Transshipments of inbound transit cargo in the reporting period increased by 7.1 percent to 9,261,200 tons. Short sea traffic rose 10.6 percent to 2,082,200 tons.


The leading port of Kerch transshipped 224.7% more transit cargo than a year before; Yuzhny port transit traffic soared 53.9% from last year’s numbers; Evpatoria port - up 29%; Berdyansk port – up 23.9%; Port of Nikolayev- up 22.5%, the port of Odessa – a 16.7% increase; Skadovskiy port - up 11.8%, Feodosia port - a 6.9% gain; Reni port - up 6.8%; port of Ilyichevsk – up 6.4%.


The ten-month volume of exports/imports rose 4.8 percent to 93,251,200 tons. Yalta port’s throughput surged 70.4% year-on-year, Evpatoria port - by 42.5%; Yuzhny port – by 28.6%; Nikolayev port - by 20.6%, Feodosia port - by15.8%, Kerch port - a 14.5% growth, Kherson port - up 13%, Reni port - up 10.9%, Berdyansk port - up 10.8%, the port of Odessa - a 2.7% gain.
