Water treatment solutions provider Severn Trent De Nora will install its Balpure ballast water treatment system on four new LNG carriers of Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), Seatrade Asia online reports. The 172,000 dwt LNG carriers, built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group), will be chartered out on a long-term basis to China Gas/ExxonMobil.
The Balpure BP-5000 system is capable of treating ballast water flow rates of up to 5,000 cubic metres per hour.
The first system will be installed in August 2012, with the last installation to be completed before the end of 2013.
“With the Ballast Water Management Convention getting closer to ratification, owners and operators have begun to shortlist their preferred ballast water treatment solutions,” said Jim McGillivray, Balpure general manager for Severn Trent De Nora.
