The nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" will make for the Gulf of Finland on January 23, 2012 and is expected to be there within seven days, Deputy Transport Ministry Viktor Olersky told reporters at a briefing organized by PortNews.
The 100-day charter agreement for the icebreaker was signed with federal enterprise Atomflot.
The official noted that the Ministry resolved all legal issues related to the icebreakers operations, border crossing, nuclear-powered vessels calls to the regional ports, etc.
According to Rosmorport’s Andrei Lavrishchev, who attended the briefing, the charter contract with Atomflot is valued at RUB 300 million. Big Port St. Petersburg Harbormaster Peter Parinov said that this winter there will be 7 icebreakers providing assistance to merchant fleet in the Gulf.
