Port Guangzhou container traffic rose 13.4 percent in 2011

Container traffic at the Port of Guangzhou in 2011 increased by 13.4% year-on-year to 14.4 million TEU. Its throughput tonnage increased five percent to 448 million tonnes, Xinhua reports.

Guangzhou's seaport facilities handled 14.23 million TEU, up 13.4 per cent. Overall tonnage grew five per cent to 431 million tonnes.

Last year, Guangzhou invested CNY2.75 billion (US$436 million) on port infrastructures, 5.8 per cent more than in 2010. Some CNY750 million was spent on navigation channel projects, accounting for 27.3 per cent of the total.
