Rosmorport icebreakers rescue ice-locked ships in Kerch Strait

Four diesel-electric icebreakers owned by FSUE Rosmorport have rescued since yesterday 6 vessels ice-trapped in the Kerch Strait, the Azov Branch of Rosmorport said.


The icebreakers "Kapitan Demidov" and "Kapitan Chudinov" rammed a path for the Apache, the Spadina, the Sormovsky 54, Desire and the Orel-2, helping them to open water in the north of the Strait of Kerch-Yenikalsky.


The icebreakers "Kapitan Moshkin" and "Kapitan Krutov" evacuated the USS-4, 15 miles to the north of the Strait of Kerch-Yenikalsky. The Kapitan Moshkin also has four seafarers on board rescued yesterday from the burned Ivan Vikulov.


There are still 10 ice-locked vessels in the area and a convoy of 17 ships In the area of the Elenina spit, most of which were en route to the ports of Azov, Rostov, Taganrog and Yeisk.
