The Tripoli container port's contracted valued was US$58 million and construction period was 18 months. China won the bid in 2004 but suspended construction for many reasons. Construction of the project was restarted from December 4, 2009.
With the completion of the construction, Tripoli is now the second port having a container terminal in Lebanon following Beirut port.
The new container terminal will enlarge and optimise categories of imported and exported cargoes and accelerate loading and unloading of cargoes. The port is in strategic position along the east coast of the Mediterranean.
