Container volumes handled at HHLA’s three Port of Hamburg terminals, Altenwerder, Burchardkai and Tollerort, rose to 7.1 million TEU during the year.
Based on figures published to date, HHLA experienced stronger volume growth than its main competitors Rotterdam and Antwerp.
“HHLA looks back on a successful financial year 2011. Our company utilised the strong growth in Asia and Eastern Europe as well as the good economic development in Germany to improve its market position once again,” said HHLA CEO, Klaus-Dieter Peters.
“Our new mega-ship berths and the expansion of our hinterland network contributed significantly towards this success,” he added.
HHLA also achieved a rise in Group revenues from € 1,068 million, recorded in 2010, to € 1,215 million, according to preliminary unaudited figures for the year.
The terminal operator also recorded a rise in its operating result (EBIT) from € 93 million in 2010 to € 205 million.
Port Logistics, HHLA’s publicly listed core business, generated revenues of approximately € 1,190 million and an operating result (EBIT) of € 195 million.
Further good news for HHLA was seen in the volumes of hinterland traffic at its intermodal facilities, with the sector reporting throughput volumes of 1.9 million TEU, a rise of 11.3 percent over the previous year. Strong growth in hinterland traffic was driven by enhanced services to Czech Republic and Poland, according to HHLA.
HHLA will publish its final results for the 2011 financial year on March 30th 2012.
