The tanker Karakum Oil (home port Vladivostok) on February 15, 2012 ran aground at the exit of the Whale Bay, 5 km off Kurilsk, 80 m from coastline, the Far Eastern Regional Emergency Center said.
The vessel did not issue a distress call. The survey proved the tanker’s hull was not damaged and no oil leak detected.
The tanker has the 20 crew on board and about 1,000 tons of diesel fuel. All of the crew members have been evacuated safe by a tug to the shore.
