Port of Singapore traffic volume climbs 1.8 percent

Cargo traffic at the port of Singapore in January 2012 rose to 44.03 million tons, a 1.8% gain year-over-year, the Port Authority statistics said.

Crude oil shipments from Singapore terminal declined by 1% to 14.58 million tons. Container throughput rose by 5.2% to 2.54 million TEUs.

Singapore is the city-state located on an island in Southeast Asia. Container traffic at Port of Singapore in 2011 rose 5.3% year-over-year, to 29.93 million TEUs. Annual cargo throughput at the port totaled 530.48 million tons.
