SPP Shipbuilding books two product carriers

South Korea's SPP Shipbuilding booked two 52,000 dwt newbuilding product carriers for a total of $73m from a US-based shipowner, Seatrade Asia online reports. SPP Shipbuilding unveiled on Tuesday that the carriers are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2014.
The shipyard claimed that the ships are incorporated with eco-friendly features to reduce bunker fuel consumption by about 20%.
SPP Shipbuilding's latest contract win follows a confirmed order from Navios Acquisition of Greece for three MR2 product carriers of similar sizes to be built at a South Korean yard. The carriers are slated to be delivered in the second, third and fourth quarter of 2014, respectively.
