Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) is aiming to double the size of its profitable logistics business over the next two to three years as it core liner suffers heavy losses. While its APL liner business ran up a $467m loss in 2011, APL Logistics by contrast enjoyed a record year with a $69m profit on revenues of $1.4bn, Seatrade Asia online reports. “We will look for opportunities to back a winner [APL Logistics]. It’s a business that provides steady growth and steady margins but unfortunately as part of our overall portfolio it’s too small right now to be able to offset any swings in the liner business,” Ng Yat Chung, president and ceo of NOL, told.
