Rescuers discovered on February 25 and inspected a life raft from the sunken jack-up drilling rig “Kolskaya.” The craft, which was washed ashore on the island of Urup (Kuril ridge) had several breaches and was empty, the Sakhalin regional Emergencies Ministry said.
The jack up drilling rig Kolskaya capsized and sank off Russia's far eastern island of Sakhalin on Dec. 18, 2011 while being towed through a winter storm from Kamchatka to Sakhalin. Salvage teams rescued 14 people alive and recovered 11 bodies of total 67 workers who were onboard the facility.
