Rosmorport icebreakers lead 10-ship convoy to Temryuk harbor

The icebreakers owned by Rosmorport’s regional brunch, Kapitan Demidov and Kapitan Chudinov have successfully escorted a convoy of 10 ships up to the outer anchorage of the port of Temryuk, the Azov Ice Ops Headquarters said.


As of 8:00 (local time), the icebreakers were cutting an open channel in the ice-covered harbor to guide cargo ships to / from the port. The Kapitan Chudinov ensures the safety of ships at anchor. The caravan includes the M/V Polaris, AET Nissa, Gilius-2, Unicom, Alpha, Azov Confidence, Othello, Gas Earl, Roksolana-2, Yakhont and the Gas Monarch.


Another Rosmorport’s icebreakers the Kapitan Moshkin and the Kapitan Krutov have covered so far 55 nm with the M/V Volga-Balt-239 and have reached the anchor of the port of Kavkaz. Now the vessels are organizing a new convoy to set sail to the north.


There are now 80 cargo ships staying in the Russian ports of the Azov Sea and are set to depart, 13 of them – with ice-class hulls, and 15 ships – to call at the Azov-based ports, including 4 vessels sitting at anchor, nine – en route, and 2 stricken ships.


As of today, 96 cargo ships are awaiting in the Black Sea to be escorted through the Kerch Strait to the Sea of Azov, 42 of them – ice-classed. Some ships are guided by ice-class tugs to / from the port of Kavkaz.
