Freight volumes hauled by St. Petersburg branch of JSC Freight One in 2011 fell 3 percent year-on-year to more than 18 million tons, the carrier St. Pb office said.
The decline in traffic volume was attributed in the company to the withdrawal of gondola cars previously chartered from Second Freight Company.
The bulk of cargoes transported in the reporting period were ferrous metals (12.7 million tons), mineral and construction materials (2.8 m tons), consumer goods (1.3 m tons). The rail operator also carried 940,000 tons of liquid bulk cargo and about 240,000 tons of timber.
The Company moved from the Kaliningrad region over 120,000 tons of cargo to Russia's regions and to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, mostly - canned food, fat-and-oil products.
The FO’s northwest branch is operating on the Oktyabrsky and Kaliningrad railways. In 2011, the share of Freight One in Oktyabrsky Railroad freight traffic accounted for 25% and remained at the level of last year’s figure, with a y-o-y 2.5-percent surge (28%) in cargo volumes hauled on the Kaliningrad Railroad.
JSC Freight One is a leading provider of rail transportation in Russia. The Freight One was formed in 2007 by rail monopoly Russian Railways (RZD). Currently FO owns and operates a fleet of about 190,000 units (gondolas, tank cars, flat cars, ect.) or 22% of total rolling stock of the country.
