Icebreakers to lead a 16-ship convoy to Azov, Rostov-on-Don

A convoy of 16 cargo ships will be escorted today by Rosmorport’s icebreakers Kapitan Demidov and Kapitan Chudinov from the port of Taganrog to the Azov and Rostov-on-Don, the Azov Ice Operations HQ said.

The ships in the caravan are as follows: the Malta-flag M/V Stefania-Michaela, the M/V Kadan Bey (Panama flag), the Siberian 2129 (Russia), the Siberia 2133 (Russia), the Siberian 2132 (Russia), the Mugan (Malta), the Riroyl-5 (Russia) and the Azov Mariner (Russia).

The following Russia-flagged vessels will be escorted to Rostov-on-Don: the Caspian Stream, the Riroyl-2, the Amur-2524, the Hilamaya , the Amur-2521 , the Amur-2527, the Tanais as well as the Panama-flagged M/V Russian.  

There are now 77 cargo ships staying in the Russian ports of the Azov Sea and are set to depart, 10 of them – with ice-class hulls. 15 vessels are leaving the Azov Sea, 15 ships to call at the Azov-based ports, 2 vessels riding at anchor, 2 stricken ships.

As of today, 81 cargo ships are awaiting in the Black Sea to be escorted through the Kerch Strait to the Sea of Azov, 29 of them are ice-classed.
