The nuclear-powered icebreaker “Russia” is expected to set sail from the Port of Murmansk to the Gulf of Finland on March 1, 2012. The vessel will replace another nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Years of Victory," the FSUE Atomflot said.
The nuclear-powered icebreakers owner Atomflot added that the icebreaker arrival in the Gulf is expected on 7 March 2012. The 50 Years of Victory was chartered by Rosmorport for 100 days to beef up a fleet of 14 diesel-electric icebreakers (owned by Rosmorport) and to ensure smooth shipping during this winter season in the region. The icebreakers escort convoys of tankers sailing to/from the port of Primorsk.
