UL Terminal’s border crossing point gets approval
The renovated marine border crossing point based at Berth Number 1 of liquid bulk cargo of the Cargo and Passenger Multilateral Border Crossing Point (MPP) at the port of Ust-Luga completely satisfy the requirements for the organization of border, customs and other controls implemented at checkpoints of the border of the Russian Federation, Rosgranitsa said.
The Interagency Commission (IAC) has signed the acceptance certification of the facility and Rosgranitsa (Russian Border Services Agency) will make changes in Annex to its Order dated April 28, 2009 "On the opening of the crossing point of the state border of the Russian Federation at the seaport of Ust-Luga"
The projected annual capacity of the checkpoint is 100 ship calls and 7 million tons of different cargoes.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. Now, Rosmorport is implementing the port’s dredging project to deepen the harbor and a 3.7km approach canal to 17.5 meters. Besides, Rosmorport plans to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. Today, the port has six fully operating terminals (nine more to be commissioned soon). Overall, there will be 19 terminals commissioned by 2018. By 2018, the port’s annual throughput is expected to increase to 180 million tons.
