Yangfan wins fuel-efficient bulkers order
Chinese firm Yangfan Group clinched an order to build six 39,500 dwt fuel-efficient bulk carriers for Ireland-based d'Amico Dry Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of diversified Italian operator d'Amico Group, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The newbuilding contract is worth $134m, valuing each handymax at $22.3m. The contract also includes an option to build six more similar vessels.
Cesare d'Amico, chief executive of d'Amico, said the handysize segment has potential for future growth and welcomed the fuel savings design of the vessels.
“Given their characteristics, the vessels have also attracted strong interest from the financial world, where financing for the project has been offered by a number of active European banks at competitive pricing compared to today's market terms,” he said.
The vessels are scheduled to be delivered from Zhejiang Yangfan Shipbuilding in 2014.
