The Government of India in the Ministry of Shipping, by notification dated May 28, 2012, has appointed Shri S. R. Kulkarni, as a Trustee representing labour employed in the Port for a period of two years from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2014. These nominations are made in accordance with Section 3 of the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963. The labour has got two seats on the Board of Trustees, Daily Shipping Times reports.
Shri S. R. Kulkarni, besides being President of the Transport & Dock Workers Union, Mumbai and also the President of the All India Port & Dock Workers Federation, has been the Labour Trustee on the Board of Trustees of Mumbai Port for an uninterrupted period of over 54 years.
Shri Sanjay Thakare representing other interest is also reappointed as a Trustee of the Mumbai Port Trust.
The other Labour Trustee Dr. Shanti Patel - President of MbPT Docks Gen. Workers’ Union, will represent employees in the Port of Mumbai.
