St. Petersburg to have a new plot for construction of New-Admiralty Shipyard
The Russian Defense Ministry is set to hand over to St. Petersburg a plot of land, owned by the Ministry, which will be allocated for the construction of New Admiralty Shipyard, the project managing company said.
The Management Company for the New Admiralty Shipyard Construction LLC said the handover order has been signed by Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.
According to the order, the Ministry of Defense will turn over from the federal ownership to the city a plot of land (with a workshop and quarters) of 73,5 hectares in Kronstadt.
By the end of 2012 this site together with other plots encompassing nearly 150 ha will be transferred to the developer Management Company for the New Admiralty Shipyard Construction LLC.
The agreement with the Ministry of Defense is very important for the New Admiralty shipyard project implemented by United Shipbuilding Corporation. This step eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming reclamation of similar-sized area in the Gulf of Finland.
"This decision question dramatically reduces the cost of the project," CEO of Managing Company Alexander Voznesensky said, adding that
the decision would not have been possible without the support of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak and St. Petersburg Governor George Poltavchenko.
