Sassnitz-Mukran Ust-Luga ferry line to be launched today
The inauguration ceremony for the regular ferry service between the ports of Sassnitz / Mukran and Ust-Luga will be held today, June 8, 2012 in the port of Sassnitz (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany), the press office of the Leningrad region government told PortNews.
The event will be attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel as a member of Bundestag representing the Pomeranian constituency of Stralsund–Nordvorpommern–Rügen, the Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko, Vice-governor Alexander Kuznetsov, Ust-Luga Board Chairman Valery Izraylit, Deutsche Bahn AG Board Chairman, President of OAO RZD Vladimir Yakunin and Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and State Development Volker Schlotmann.
The new ferry is part of a project "Baltic Ferry", which involves the creation of rail and road service Ust-Luga - Baltiysk - Sassnitz. The project has been supported by the federal government, as an important link in the transport corridor "East-West".
