Sassnitz - Ust-Luga ferry to make weekly calls to Sassnitz
The PETERSBURG ferry operating on the Sassnitz - Ust-Luga line will make weekly calls at Sassnitz, the Ust-Luga company said.
According to the Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko, a significant competitive advantage of the line should be a single customs window and advance electronic cargo declaration.
"The development of the multipurpose port in Ust Luga is one of the most ambitious projects in our region," the official.
He added that to meet the needs of the infrastructure project the regional authorities are set to build a new city for 35,000-40,000 people.
In addition, given the constant growing traffic in the Baltic Sea, the Ust-Luga project is to meet the latest requirements for environmental protection, said the governor.
The PETERSBURG has delivered to Sassnitz 49 railcars of RZD laden with chemicals and other goods for further transshipment at the port. At the end of the inauguration ceremony the five-unit train "Lastochka" (stands for Shallow) was rolled onto the ferry, the first shipment of 38 commuter electric multiple unit trains (EMU Desiro RUS), which will be used during the Olympic Games in Sochi.
