Port of Singapore five-month traffic climbs 1 percent
Cargo throughput at the Port of Singapore in January-May 2012 totaled 224.19 million tons, which represents a 1-percent gain compared to the same period of 2011, the Port Authority statistics said.
In the reporting period, crude oil shipments through Singapore port fell 11.2% to 70.98 million tons, while container traffic increased by 6.85% to 12.92 million 900 TEUs.
Singapore is the city-state located on an island in Southeast Asia. Container traffic at Port of Singapore in 2011 rose 5.3% year-over-year, to 29.93 million TEUs. Annual cargo throughput at the port totaled 530.48 million tons.
