Ust-Luga traffic soars more than twofold to 15.27 mln tons
Handling of imports / exports at the Port of Ust-Luga in January-May 2012 jumped by 2.2 times from a year earlier to 15, 27 million tons, the Ust-Luga company said.
Shipments of imported vehicles during the five-month period surged by 53% to 72,768 units.
In May, the port handled 4.45 million tons of different cargo, which represents a twofold gain compared to the same period i 2011. The number of handled vehicles in May increased by 2.1 times and reached 16,819 cars.
Port of Ust-Luga is located on Russia’s border with the EU. Now, Rosmorport is implementing the port’s dredging project to deepen the harbor and a 3.7km approach canal to 17.5 meters. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. Today, the port has six fully operating terminals (nine more to be commissioned soon). Overall, there will be 19 terminals commissioned by 2018.
