Steel-cutting for Mistral blocks set to begin on Aug.1st
Construction of large blocks at the yards of Baltic Plant - Shipbuilding for helicopter carrier of Mistral class is scheduled for August 1, 2012, the shipyard official said Tuesday.
On August 1st, the shipbuilding firm will hold first steel-cutting ceremony, Deputy General Director Andrew Buzinov told journalists at an official launching and naming ceremony for fourth serial tanker being built by Baltic Shipyard for Baltic Fuel Company.
LLC Baltic Plant – Shipbuilding (BZS) is a member of United Shipbuilding Corporation established in late 2011. The firm was created after the former enterprise Baltic Plant announced its insolvency for the transfer of workforce and the production facilities. By January 2012, the majority of employees of the Baltic Plant had joined BZS.
St. Petersburg-based Baltic Shipyard (OJSC Baltiysky Zavod) was established in 1856. The shipbuilding company specializes in the construction of warships, large-tonnage civil vessels for transportation of different cargoes, nuclear-powered or diesel icebreakers. The enterprise builds cargo and passenger ships - Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax vessels, products carriers, dry bulk carriers, etc.
United Shipbuilding Corporation was founded in 2007 as a 100-percent state-owned group of companies consolidating about 70% of domestic shipbuilding industry. UCS currently incorporates three regional shipbuilding centers, nine engineering and design offices and 39 dockyards. The Corp’s largest shipbuilding assets include Kaliningrad-based JSC Yantar Shipyard, JSC Admiralty Shipyards (St. Petersburg), JSC PA Sevmash (Severodvinsk), JSC DVZ Zvezda (Vladivostok). Besides, USC holds a 50% stake in Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a joint venture with STX Finland Cruise Oy.
