Oil spill in Big Port St. Petersburg
An oil spill has occurred at Big Port St. Petersburg when the Russian-flagged bunkering vessel Angara (the agent Skanship Neva) was receiving heavy fuel at Berth № 112 of the Oil Terminal and over 2 tons of M-100 spilled through the neck of the tank number 5, the Transportation Ministry’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre said.
"The oil spill response operation, which started at 11.30pm, is currently underway. Today, it’s going to end," PortNews quotes Baltic BASU CEO Dmitri Smirnov as saying.
A team of Baltic Basin Emergency and Rescue Administration (Baltic BASU) has deployed oil-containment booms. The oil spill response operation has involved several boats: the Alioth, the skimmer Karat (owner Baltic BASU) and two skimmers of Marine Ecology - Neftesborshchik-11 and Neftesborshchik-12. As of June 25 the team has collected 5.8cbm of oily mixture.
