Piraeus container terminal volume rises 55% in first five months
Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA), the operator of Greece’s biggest port, said the number of containers handled at Pier I rose 55 percent over the first five months, Reuters reports.
The pier handled 293,874 twenty-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs through May 31, up from 189,706 in the same period in 2011, according to an e-mailed statement from the Piraeus-based company today.
“The port’s car terminal and cruise operations also marked an upward trend,” Chief Executive Officer Yiorgos Anomeritis said in the statement.
