Yug-2 Terminal starts regular boxes shipments
The Ust-Luga based YUG-2 Terminal has commenced regular handling of containerized imports / exports, the terminal owner Ust-Luga Company said.
As Ust-Luga Company Deputy CEO Alexander Goloviznin told PortNews correspondent on the sidelines of the 5th International Forum "Russian Ports" the company has had three LIEBHERR mobile harbor cranes, has ordered two SCS cranes, which will be commissioned at the terminal in the coming months.
Ust-Luga Comp. is currently utilizes 50 hectares of the YUG-2 terminal. The entire waterfront infrastructure has been ready and the company plans to finish building the off-dock facilities as needed.
Previously, the terminal has worked with unit containerized loads.
Besides, there is another container terminal owned by National Container Company, Ust-Luga Container Terminal.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. The port is implementing dredging the harbor area and a 3.7km approach canal to 17.5 meters. Ust-Luga also expects to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. Today, the port has six fully operating terminals (nine more to be commissioned soon). Overall, there will be 19 terminals commissioned by 2018. In 2010, Ust-Luga port handled 11.8 million tons of cargoes and 65,500 imported vehicles. By 2018, the port’s annual throughput is expected to increase to 180 million tons.
JSC Ust-Luga Company was founded in 1992 for implementation of the Port of Ust-Luga project of capacity of 180 million tons of cargo per year.
Multipurpose Terminal "Yug-2” at Ust-Luga port specializes in handling rolling cargoes, including imported vehicles, containers and general cargo (oversized, heavy lifts). The terminal operator MTP Ust-Luga is Ust-Luga Company’s subsidiary.
