Gazprom eyes LNG plant in Far East in 2016-2017
Gazprom plans to commission a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Vladivostok in Russia's Far East in 2016-2017, the gas monopoly's CEO Alexey Miller said at an annual general meeting of shareholders today. Gazprom is looking to boost its LNG production capacity in this region, RBC reports.
The gas giant is gradually working towards creating a high-capacity base in the east of the country. "In mid-August the feasibility study of investments in the Chayandinskoye field and construction of the gas transportation network will be completed," Miller said.
At present, there is only one LNG plant operating in Russia as part of the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project in the Far East. The plant has an annual capacity of 10m tons. Gazprom intends to erect an LNG plant as part of the Shtokman project in the Barents Sea. Novatek, Russia's second-largest gas producer, also has plans to build an LNG plant.
