The group of companies "Basic Element" has announced the completion of Imeretisnky port, a new cargo port based in Sochi, the Group press release said. The port’s projected capacity is 5 million tons of cargo a year, its maximum depths - 9.2 m. Investment in construction totaled RUB 6 billion. The construction contract was performed by Transstroy, a member of Basic Element Group.
The port was designed and built mainly for handling of cargo delivered for the construction of Olympic venues for the Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi. The port inauguration will enhance cargo delivery to the Valley of Imeretinskaya, where the main Olympic facilities are concentrated. After the Olympics, the port will be converted into a yachts marina.
Port of Sochi "Imeretinsky" – is the first in Russia’s Azov-Black Sea region versatile cargo port, built in the post-Soviet period as a single complex of berthing facilities and breakwaters. In addition, it is the only multipurpose port, which was built through public-private partnership. The port was built on the open Black Sea coast with a complicated wave and seismic conditions.
