Hyundai Heavy Industries wins 10 containership order
The world's biggest shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced on Tuesday it has won a $1.2bn order to build 10 containerships for a Greek shipowner, Seatrade Asia online reports.
Taiwanese container line Evergreen Marine will charter these megaships, according to a statement by HHI. The South Korean shipyard will deliver the containerships starting in the second half of 2013.
Each of the 13,800 teu vessel will be 368 metres long and 51 metres wide, HHI said, adding that the vessels will use 10% less fuel compared to existing similar class containerships.
"These orders are noteworthy considering the current sluggish shipbuilding market," an official at HHI said.
