Russia’s Rosatom invites bids for $1.14bn icebreaker contract

The state-owned Rosatom Corporation has announced an open tender for the contract for the construction of a flagship 60MW nuclear-powered icebreaker. The contract is valued RUB 36.96 billion (roughly about $1.14bn), the Corp. said.

Deadline for submission of bids is July 30, 2012.

Rosatom Corporation State customer is, the customer-developer is the FSUE Atomflot. Russian Government allocates 36 billion 959.6 million rubles for the construction of the universal strategic icebreaker of capacity of 60 MW. The government begins funding the construction this year and will continue financing the project until 2017, when the icebreaker is expected to be commissioned into service.
