Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime will build up to ten in-house designed 50,000 dwt new generation chemical tankers at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in an order worth $400m if all options are exercised, with deliveries beginning from the second quarter of 2014, according to the companies, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The newbuilds are meant to meet increasing demand for capacity in the successful Stena Weco Pool Stena has made firm orders for four ships and Concordia for two, while the remaining options could go to other partners.
The so-called Eco tankers will have fuel-saving features such as completely new hull lines and specially designed propellers which are touted to translate into savings of $3,000 to $5,000 daily in terms of cargo flexibility and fuel economy.
