UK based logistics provider Claridon Group will be booking cargo with shipping lines that call at London Gateway when the port opens in the last quarter of next year, Cargonews Asia reports.
The announcement means that hundreds of thousands of road miles and significant cost savings will be achieved as freight arriving in the UK will be closer to its end destination, cutting out significant truck haulage miles.
“We ship thousands of containers every year to and from Asia and when London Gateway opens, we will be taking advantage of the location and using it to cut supply chain costs for our customers spread across the UK,” said Chris Scott, managing director for Claridon Group.
Claridon manages approximately eight thousand TEU per year on behalf of cargo owners shipping to and from Asia, Europe, North and South America as well as other deep-sea locations.
The company has 25 years trading history and is a leading commercial and military logistics provider operating global air, sea and land logistics services.
“Having a port closer to where the containers need to go means that we can significantly reduce landside haulage costs. There’s substantial savings to be passed on to our customers due to London Gateway’s location, which they will be delighted about,” Scott said.
“Hundreds of millions of pounds of cost savings for UK firms will be achieved and it’s amazing to think that from next year, the UK shipping and ports industry will change forever. I just don’t think you can put into words how significant and valuable this location is.”
