Freight flows passing through the port of Arkhangelsk in January-June 2012 increased by 30.8% compared with the same period in 2011 to 2,378,300 tons, the Port Authority told PortNews.
Oil product exports for the past six months surged by 70.3% to 940,000 tons. Shipments of pulp, paper and cardboard increased by 39.9% to 58.600, coal exports soared 53% to 164,800 tons, while handling of timber cargo fell by 6.1% to 224,900 tons. Short sea traffic jumped by 76.3% to 875,300 tons, including 557,000 tons of delivered (+99.5%) and 318.3 million tons of shipped goods (+46.5%).
Arkhangelsk Sea Commercial Port JSC is a diversified stevedoring company operating at the Port of Arkhangelsk. The company handles primarily general cargoes, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy-lift equipment and bulked cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port is able to handle up to 4.5 million tons of cargo a year. In 2011, cargo throughput at the port of Arkhangelsk rose 1.8% year-over-year to 1,736,200 tons.
