Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has tightened restrictions on aged vessels. Now the decision to register a vessel of 15 years and over will be adopted by specially created Technical Committee.
"Vessels of 15 years and over are a group of high-risk vessels, were subject to more stringent requirements for the scope of periodical inspections , the procedure for changing the ship class, for port authorities inspection," said Igor Baranov, CEO and First Deputy General Director of RS.
In most cases, the PS refuses to certify vessels older than 20 years. The RS’ Technical Committee was formed in March 2012 to create and provide a unified technical policy of the RS, and to improve efficiency of interaction with external organizations. The functions of the committee is to assess the appropriateness of admission to the RS class of ships that do not have the class of the classification society, member of IACS and 15-year-old vessels or more, the need for assessment of their preliminary examinations. The committee included experts from nine different divisions of the RS Main Directorate.
