Flood in southern Russia disrupts Novorossiysk oil terminal treatment facilities

The heavy rains in the southern region of Russia triggered mud flood which has destroyed treatment facilities of Novorossiysk-based Sheskharis oil terminal. Emergency crews are working to eliminate the effects of the disaster, Chernomortransneft (the terminal operator, Transneft’s unit) reported. They have deployed in the area oil containment booms.

Rostransnadzor required thorough inspection of the terminal equipment serviceability. The facility has resumed shipping of crude oil and oil products. There were 5 tankers at the port anchorage during the flood.

Main reservoir supplying Sheskharis storage depot is located at the tank farm of Grushovaya. It contains over one million of cubic meters of oil. The tank farms are linked by technological tunnel with a diameter of 5 m.

Since the Sheskharis complex commissioning the facility has shipped more than 1.2 billion tons of oil, or 25,300 tankers.
