Handling of containerized import / exports at CJSC Container Terminal Saint Petersburg (CTSPb) in the first half of 2012 jumped by three times from a year earlier to 128,540 TEUs, UCLH press release said.
Exports increased by 3.7 times to 62,900 TEUs, imports – surged by 5.3 times to 65,600 TEUs.
During the reporting period, CTSPb handled 167 ships.
"The growth of freight traffic was driven by boosted container handling, as well as improving the terminal’s service quality,” the company said. Opening of the Baltic Customs post at the terminal’s territory and introduction of electronic documents allowed the company to simplify container shipments procedure.
In addition, in March 2012 the company put into operation new handling equipment: 13 new tractor-trailer trucks and roll-trailers. In May, the company opened additional yard for storing empty 3,000teu containers.
Container Terminal St. Petersburg is a new complex for transshipment of containerized cargo on Fourth Cargo Area of Big Port St. Petersburg encompassing 32 ha and a capacity of 500,000 TEUs. The facility specializes in handling all types of import and export containers, including reefer.
Terminal is one of the key projects of development program of UCL Port a stevedore division of UCL Holding, which includes Sea Port St. Petersburg and Universal Handling Terminal in the northwestern Russia, the ports of Tuapse and Taganrog in the south.
