Nobel Brothers Shipyard plans to hold keel-laying ceremony in July 2012 for the lead vessel of a series of barges ordered by JSC Lena United River Shipping Company (LORP), the shipping company said. The barge of carrying capacity of 4400 tons will be constructed to the class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, which allows operating in littoral zone of seas and inland waterways.
The last time when Lena Shipping Company purchased newbuilds was in the late 90s.
JSC Lena United River Shipping Company is the only transport company in the Arctic regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). LORP is the main carrier of passengers and cargoes on the regional inland and sea shipping lanes. The company owns and operates a fleet of more than 350 cargo vessels, tugs, passenger vessels and workboats of total capacity of 450,000 tons.
Based in the town of Rybinsk of Yaroslavl Region Nobel Brothers Shipyard Ltd. was founded in 1907. Today, this is the largest shipbuilding firm in the Upper Volga (the yard encompasses 214,000 sq.km) employing 500 people. The company specializes in the construction of sea-going and river vessels, as well as ship repair. Nobel Bros Shipyard executes orders for Dutch customers for the hulls of dry bulk carriers, tankers, barges and other vessels.
