Maersk to increase rates on Asia services from Aug. 1.

Maersk Line plans to implement a new round of general rate increases in its Asia services that would take effect Aug. 1, the Journal of Commerce reports.

The Danish carrier said rates on cargo from Northeast Asia to Australia would increase $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot container. Northeast Asia includes China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

Rates on cargo from Far East Asia to West Africa will rise $150 per 20-foot container.

From Far East Asia to South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, Maersk’s planned increase will be $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot/high cube container.

From Southeast Asia to Australia, the carrier will push its rates up by $300 per 20-foot container and $600 per 40-foot container.

Separately, Maersk said it will impose a rate hike on shipments from Far East Asia to the east coast of South America, starting July 15. The planned increase on dry cargo will be $500 per 20-foot container and $1,000 per 40-foot/45-foot container.
