Singapore-based container carrier APL will seek a general rate increase on trades from India to the U.S., starting Aug. 5, the Journal of Commerce reports.
The proposed increase will be $560 per 20-foot, $700 per 40-foot, $790 per 40-foot high cube and $885 per 45-foot container.
The rate hike will apply to all cargo and containers, including open-top and flat-rack equipment.
In other trade news, India’s Mumbai Port Authority said it handled 15.45 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of fiscal 2012-13, compared with 13.59 million tons a year earlier. Container throughput during April to June was estimated at 14,905 20-foot equivalent units, up from 14,331 TEUs.
