Sea Port St. Pb half-year cargo volumes grow 25 percent

Handling of freight at the Sea Port St. Petersburg (JSC SP St. Pb) in the first half of the year totaled 4.5 million tons, up 25% over the same period last year, the stevedoring company said.

During the first six months of 2012 the volume of general cargo increased by 11% on the same period of 2011, to 3.6 million tons, shipments of bulk cargo nearly tripled to 802,000 tons. Handling of imported vehicles increased by 12% to 34,935 cars.

Exports rose 26% year-on-year to 3.4 million tons, imports grew by 20%, to 1.1 million tons.

JSC Sea Port St. Petersburg (part of UCL Port, a sub-holding, controlling stevedoring assets of the international transportation group UCL Holding) is the largest operator, providing services for handling all types of dry cargo in the Big Port of St. Petersburg. The company operates modern specialized terminals for handling Ro-Ro cargo, vehicles and metals. In 2011, cargo throughput at Sea Port St. Petersburg was 7.4 million tons. Last year, the company invested 319 million rubles in overhaul and upgrade of cargo terminals and infrastructure.
