Cargo traffic at the ports of China in January-June 2012 increased by 7.2 % on the same period a year ago, to 4.74 billion tons, the Transportation Ministry of China statistics said.
The six-month traffic volume at the nation’s seaports rose 8.4% to 3.27 billion tons, in river ports – by 4.6% to 1.48 million tons.
In the reporting period, container throughput grew by 8.8% from last year’s numbers to 84.6 million TEUs. Shipments of containers through the country’s seaports increased by 8.7% to 75.66 mln TEUs, from river ports – by 9.5% to 8.94 million TEUs.
In 2011, total container traffic at the country’s ports amounted to about 9 billion tons.
