Handling of exports / imports at Murmansk Commercial Sea Port (JSC MCSP) in January-June 2012 increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2011, to 7,757,800 tons, the stevedoring company statistics said.
The six-month traffic volume includes 5.71 million tons of coal, 419,300 tons of apatite concentrate, 896,600 tons of iron ore, 157,400 tons of non-ferrous metals and 132,000 tons of manganese ore.
In the reporting period the port handled 254 vessels, including 86 coal-laden ships, 106 ships with general cargo, 14 vessels carrying iron ore and 26 vessels with apatite concentrate. Handling of rail cars increased by 13% and amounted to 111,217 units.
OJSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport was founded in 1994. MCS operates 17 berths of total length of about 3 km. The waters depths allow the port to accommodate vessels with draft of 15.5 m and length of more than 265 m. The stevedore specializes in handling ranged cargoes, including non-ferrous metals and alloys in packages, rolled ferrous metals, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina, and scrap and iron ore pellets in bulk, chemical products in bags and big-bags, construction cargo and foodstuff.
