Two UCL’s rail divisions mull merger

The decision on the integration of LLC Independent Transportation Company (NTK) and JSC Freight One (PGK) can be approved before October 2012, a PGK officials said.

Currently, stockholders are considering various options for integration in order to maximize the synergies from combining the two companies, Freight One’s First Deputy CEO, Commerce Alexey Shafranov told reporters.

Both companies are members of UCL Holding controlled by Russian billionaire Vladimir Lisin.

Freight One is the largest private rail freight operator in Russia and across the whole 1520 gauge. In 2011 the total capacity of freight transportation by Freight One was 284 million tons. Freight One possesses over 190 000 units of rolling stock which constitutes 17% of Russian car fleet. The structure of Freight One is made up of 14 sub-offices, which deliver services to customers across the whole railway network in Russia. In Ukraine and Finland the Company is represented by Freight One Ukraine and Freight One Scandinavia.

In late 2011 Freight One joined UCL Rail, which is the railway division of UCL Holding - an international transport group. The group unites several large railway operators with a broad network, as well as stevedoring companies in the north-west and south of the country, along with Volga, North-Western and Western Shipping Companies, plus some other shipping and logistics assets.

Established in 2001, Independent Transportation Company (NTK) is now one of the leading freight transportation companies in Russia. The Company performing home-based and international rail cargo transportation.

UCL Rail’s companies operate a fleet of 218,000 freight cars. UCLR regional network comprises 16 offices across Russia
